American University in Cairo (EGY) - TT Open Rank Position in American Lit.

Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. Job Description: The Department of English and Comparative Literature seeks to appoint a faculty in American literature (open rank) for a full time, tenure-track appointment beginning Fall 2015. Possible fields of interest include, but are not limited to: African American literature, Arab American literature, Multiethnic American literature, American studies, Hemispheric studies, Translation Studies, and Transnationalism. The successful candidate is expected to teach humanities courses in the AUC core curriculum, introduction to literature and introduction to American studies courses, and both halves of a two-semester survey of American literature; actively engage in research; supervise M.A. theses and serve on committees; and provide department and university service. The teaching load is normally nine credits per semester, including courses in the M.A. program.

Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in English, American Studies, Comparative Literature, or a related discipline by the time of appointment, preferably with a record of an active research agenda and teaching experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Responsibilities: Direct the Brandywine Writing Studio, which includes training and supervision of tutors, strategic planning, and collaborating with faculty to enhance writing across the curriculum. Qualifications: Ph.D. in English, Composition Rhetoric or related area required. Experience with writing center administration highly preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with scholarship or teaching experience in American literature and/or cultural studies. The English program has a philosophical emphasis on cultural and critical approaches to literary study and contributes courses to interdisciplinary programs including American Studies, Civic & Community Engagement, Peace & Conflict Studies, Global Studies, and Women's Studies. Evidence of potential in research and publication and commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

Fordham University (NY) - Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow (American Literature)

The English Department at Fordham University is looking for a postdoctoral teaching fellow with a specialization in any field of American literature, for a one-year appointment at the Rose Hill (Bronx) campus, starting in Fall 2015. Candidates should be able to teach composition and introductory literature courses--at least one of which is on Edgar Allan Poe--as well as electives in American literature. The position carries a 3/3 teaching load and will provide an opportunity to participate in the scholarly and professional life of the English Department at Fordham's Manhattan and Bronx campuses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. in hand by the end of August 2015.
