The Departments of Interdisciplinary Studies and English at Clayton State University invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of African American Studies and English, beginning August 1, 2013. This 10-month position involves teaching 4 courses per semester (excluding summer) divided between African American Studies and English, and the faculty member will be housed in both parent departments (the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies oversees the program in African American Studies, and the Department of English oversees the program in English).
We are seeking a well-rounded person with a specialization in African American Studies in a global context, Caribbean Literature, and survey of literature courses. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- An earned Ph.D. in English or African American Studies, or a closely related discipline. ABD candidates with a firm dissertation defense date may be considered. :Candidate must have a minimum of 18 credit hours of graduate studies that can reasonably be applied to English and African American Studies.
- Experience teaching at the college level in English and African American Studies.
- A record of excellent college teaching.
- Knowledge of the application of technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- Evidence of scholarly presentation and publication potential.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
- Ability and desire to perform research with undergraduate students in area of expertise.
- Desire to teach African Literature.
- Desire to participate in Distance Learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in English and undergraduate courses in African American Studies.
- Advise students in Interdisciplinary Studies.
- Service on University, College, Department, and Program-level Committees and community service.
- Engage in an active research agenda in African American Studies and English.

Hampshire Colleges Creative Writing Program invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing and African American Literary Arts, to begin in fall 2013. We seek a writer (of poetry, fiction, and/or creative nonfiction) whose artistic and critical work is engaged with the histories, literary arts, and cultures of people of African descent, particularly in the United States. We are especially interested in candidates whose work explores the intersections of creative practice, research and issues of social justice. We seek candidates who are interested in teaching workshop-based courses as well as modeling for students what it can mean for writers to engage with literature through critical and theoretical lenses.
At least two years of college level teaching, a terminal degree (MFA or PhD), an active interest in critical pedagogy, and a record of publication are essential. The Creative Writing Program is part of the School for Interdisciplinary Arts, which includes arts and social action as one of its key mandates. In keeping with the Schools mission statement, students are encouraged to consider issues of social justice and the power of art to change lives. The Schools robust collegial atmosphere depends on close collaboration, and collective openness to experimentation and artistic cross-pollination.

West Chester University of Pennsylvania's Department of English is seeking applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor of English (or related field) with specializations in African American Literature and/or Composition/Rhetoric.
The successful candidate will have Ph.D. in English (or related discipline) with a specialization in African American Literature and/or Composition/Rhetoric at the time of hire, a strong record of scholarship, and evidence of quality teaching at the undergraduate level. Desired secondary areas might include, but are not limited to: Anglophone Caribbean Literature, and/or Frederick Douglass.
Experience with distance/online education is a plus. Successful candidates will also be able to teach general education courses in composition and literature.
The successful candidate will have the Ph.D. in hand by August 1, 2013. They should be able to demonstrate an active research agenda through a history of conference presentations as well as through articles submitted for publication.
