=== '''Lafayette College''' === '''Tenure-Track-Faculty''' '''Easton, PA''' Lafayette College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to fill the newly endowed Robert Weiner and Ilan Peleg Chair in Jewish Studies, starting July 1, 2021. This is an open-rank position, with a strong preference for candidates at the rank of associate professor or advanced assistant professor. The successful candidate will be jointly affiliated with the Jewish Studies program and a department/program appropriate to the candidate’s discipline and area of teaching and scholarship. We are interested in a candidate who will teach courses in Jewish Studies related to one or more of the subjects of Jewish history, religion, politics, philosophy, literatures, and the arts, communities, languages, and cultures from their ancient origins through present times in societies around the world, including the Holocaust and Arab-Israeli relations. The candidate will also provide undergraduates with research opportunities and mentor them in their independent scholarship. We welcome candidates with a doctorate from any of a range of departments and disciplines, including but not necessarily Jewish Studies. The candidate will play a leadership role in further strengthening the Jewish Studies program at Lafayette College, which takes an interdisciplinary approach to examining the many facets of Jewish civilization. We seek exceptional teacher-scholars with evidence of innovative and effective undergraduate teaching, a strong and productive research program, and widely recognized or potential leadership in the field. The teaching load is four courses in the first year of appointment and five courses each year after that. Applicants should upload the following items to Interfolio at <nowiki>https://apply.interfolio.com/82801</nowiki> by March 12, 2021: a cover letter, CV, a statement of teaching philosophy and interests, a recent writing sample in English (e.g., an article, chapter, etc., 25 pages maximum), up to two course syllabi, and three letters of recommendation. The cover letter should discuss how the applicant’s teaching, scholarship, mentoring, and/or community service will support Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion as articulated in the College’s diversity statement (<nowiki>http://www.lafayette.edu/about/diversity-statement</nowiki>). Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Applications completed by March 12, 2021 will receive full consideration. Further inquiries may be addressed to the search committee co-chairs, Eric Ziolkowski (ziolkowe@lafayette.edu) or Ethan Berkove (berkovee@lafayette.edu). Lafayette College is a highly selective private undergraduate college with academic programs and opportunities characteristic of larger institutions. The College is approximately 70 miles from both New York City and Philadelphia. More information about the Jewish Studies program is available at <nowiki>https://jewishstudies.lafayette.edu/</nowiki>. Lafayette College is committed to creating a diverse community: one that is inclusive and responsive, and is supportive of each and all its students, staff, and faculty. All members of the College community share a responsibility for creating, maintaining, and developing a learning environment in which difference is valued, equity is sought, and inclusiveness is practiced. Lafayette College is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from women and minorities. --Any updates on this job? --4/19 - nothing. anyone heard anything? --4/20 Nope. Spoke with someone at Lafayette (but not involved in the search) who said that there had been no job talks advertised to the department, so do with that information what you will. --Do you know anything about the other searches at Lafayette at all, there is total silence on Intl Studies search as well? -- I do not, sorry. I don't think I have a contact in that department but if I hear anything that might shed light on what's going on more broadly I will post. 4/25 allegedly contacting applicants this week -5/3 - anyone heard anything? -5/5 - just the sound of my teeth grinding and my soul shouting into the void. -5/20 - anything yet? -5/20 still nothing over here. -5/20 - same. nothing over here. Did anyone else notice that they gave about 3 weeks between posting it to the deadline, and the day after the search deadline, they extended the application for another 2 weeks? maybe they were waiting for a specific candidate to apply or they cancelled the search? -6/23 - did anyone hear anything? the person with the connection to Lafayette - do you know if the search was cancelled? -6/24 no, the search was no canceled. As of last week the department chair hoped to be in touch with people "in a week or two." My gut sense is that they skipped most normal steps and made an offer to someone and the rest of us will hear once the contract is signed, but that is just a guess. -7/28 Finally got the rejection letter. Never heard a word from the SC until now. 84 applications from across disciplines. Winner of this search is Monika Rice. I feel like they never gave newly minted PhDs a look.
