The University of the South Pacific is the premier tertiary institution in the Pacific region. Courses are offered face-to-face at our main campuses (predominantly at Laucala Campus where this position is based), as well as by online and blended modes, in order to cater for students spread across 33 million square kilometres of ocean, on both sides of the international dateline. This location at the heart of the world's most linguistically diverse region makes USP a fascinating institution in which to work. The School: The successful candidate will be based in the School of Language, Arts and Media (SLAM) which houses the disciplines of Literature, Academic English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Journalism, Fijian, Hindi, French and Chinese. SLAM places a high value on collegiality and on the development of a dynamic scholarly community. It is one of the most research-focused schools in the university and provides generous funding for active researchers. The Opportunity: SLAM is seeking to appoint a motivated, experienced and talented individual who can make a significant contribution to research and teaching within the field of Literature, with preferred expertise in global or postcolonial literatures in English and literary/critical theory. The successful applicant will be an active member of the school's vibrant research culture and will contribute to teaching, course development and supervision at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The applicant will also be able to undertake management and administrative duties commensurate with the role. The post will be based at Laucala Campus, Fiji, although there may also be opportunities to deliver short-term flexi-schools at other campuses in the region. The Person We Seek: To be considered for this position, applicants must have: A PhD in a relevant field; Excellent qualifications in Literature, ideally with a background in global or postcolonial literatures in English and literary/critical theory; A solid research plan within their own field of expertise; Strong record of research publications in peer-reviewed journals and participation in conferences; Focused personal research plan, which determines clear and achievable publication and conference goals; Proven record of effective teaching and research supervision For appointment at the Senior Lecturer level you must have a strong record of published research in top-tier journals and books with either a formal tertiary teaching qualification or significant tertiary teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants with: Experience and knowledge relating to one or more of following areas of speciality: postcolonial or global literatures in English, literary/critical theory; Experience teaching students for whom English is a second language; Experience of course development; Experience of online platforms such as Moodle, or distance modes of delivery. Remuneration: The position is available for a term of 3 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement. Salary Range: Lecturer FJ $66,990 to FJ $88,144 per annum; Senior Lecturer FJ $90,882 to FJ $104,865 per annum.
